“Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment. Full effort is full victory.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
In June 2015 I set out on a mission to try and help someone in need and memorialize a dear friend. I had the vision of getting a wig to an someone who found themselves in a medical hardship with the backing of Fr33 Aid, as outlined in our original post.
I spoke with many people about Fr33 Aid, my late friend Paul Frontiero, and our objective. There were several times when I found a potential recipient. Although, those who did meet the criteria did not have an interest in wearing a wig.
18 months had gone by and I was thinking perhaps I bit off more than I could chew. I had all the things I needed in place to accomplish our goal except the one crucial element, the recipient. I reached out to various mainstream organizations and social workers to try and bridge the gap between us and an individual who was interested in obtaining a real-hair wig with no success due to health insurance patient privacy laws.
In the process I learned a variety of things about different groups that specialize in the wig charities. Of the available charities there were some that were more charitable than others.
Pantene Beautiful Lengths was one that stood out to me. Pantene in partnership with American Cancer Society make and distribute real-hair wigs for women battling cancer at no cost to the patient, a truly charitable endeavor.
I want to thank everyone who helped spread this campaign and believed in us. Although this is not the exact ending I had in mind I am confident that the goal will be reached anonymously through this great organization.
To Paul, Thank you for being a shining light of inspiration for me now and forever.
